We offer different shipping options:

Standard Shipping: Up to 12 days

Priority Shipping: Up to 6 days

Express Shipping: 2-3 days

After we have shipped out your parcel, you will receive an e-mail with your tracking number. By clicking on the link in the e-mail, you can see where your parcel is at any time. You can also view the status of your order in the "Track order" section of our Help Center.

If you know you won't be there to receive your parcel personally, you can contact the shipping company to schedule a date for a new delivery. Of course, you can also always get in touch with our customer service team here and we will help you find a solution to receive your parcel.

We cover custom duties and extra VAT worldwide, so you generally won't face extra import fees or taxes. Please note, exclusions apply for the following countries: Katar and Uganda.

After placing your order, you will receive a comfirmation e-mail and another, once the order has been shipped. Then you will also receive your tracking number, so you can always know where your parcel is at the moment. If you ordered with Click and Collect, you will get a notification once the order is ready to be picked up at our shop.

Express orders will be shipped the same day if placed before 1pm Vienna time, or

the business day after.

Priority orders will be shipped on the following business day.

Standard orders will take us 2-3 business days to fulfill and send out.

If your order contains a l'atelier item that is a made-to-order product, it can take up to 4 

weeks to produce the item and ship your order.

Standard & Priority Shipping

Kindly contact our customer support immediately after you placed your order. Any cancellations and changes in delivery address can be made or additional products added to the order provided that you reach out to us in time before we start with the preparation process of your order.

Express Shipping 

If you choose the Express delivery option, you cannot change your order after you have placed it.

We accept payments via credit card (VISA, Mastercard and Amex), online bank transfer and PayPal. 

Yes, the shipping and billing addresses can be different - when you finalize your order, proceed until the payment stage. Underneath our payment options in “billing address”, you can select the button “Use a different billing address”. 

You can select the currency in the top right corner on our website, right beside the language option.

Depending on which address you enter at checkout, the currency also updates automatically.

Our order confirmations automatically contain a PDF version of your invoice. Simply click on the link in your e-mail to download your invoice. If you can't find the e-mail anymore or are experiencing any issues, please don't hesitate to contact us.

We accept the return of unused, unembossed and unopened products within 14 days of purchase. Please note that the delivery charge for the original order is non-refundable. If you wish to return an order it must be done so using your own postage method and at your own cost. We strongly recommend that you use recorded delivery or obtain a certificate of posting when you return any parcel. 

The following items are excluded from returns:

Embossed products are customised products and therefore are not available for exchange or return and are a final sale. The same applies to any bundles or starter kits which include an embossed product: the entire bundle or starter kit are excluded from exchange or return. It is not possible to exchange or return any individual item from within a bundle or starter kit – you can only return an entire bundle or starter kit, provided that no item is embossed, opened or used.

You can request a return via our Help Center or contact us here. 

As soon as we have received your return parcel back in our workshop, we will start processing the return, which can take between 2-5 business days. Once the order has been refunded, you will receive a short update from our team via e-mail.

Can I get my journal embossed directly in the shop?

Yes, if you visit our shop and decide that you'd like to have your initials to be embossed in the cover, we can do that for you right here! It only takes a few minutes and you can even watch our team make your journal uniquely yours.

Yes, you can select "Click and Collect" at checkout on our website. We will then prepare your order to be picked up from our shop and you'll receive a notification e-mail as soon as your order is ready.

While we don't have any wrapping paper available, you do have the option to add one of our premium wooden boxes to your order as packaging.

Please note that the parcel slip included in the parcel does not contain any prices. The invoice will be sent in a separate e-mail.

We also offer to add a handwritten note to orders meant as gifts. Kindly contact us at [email protected] before placing your order and let us know which text you'd like us to write.

Delays during transit are usually caused by something outside of our control and are often resolved by the shipping company as quickly as possible.

However, if you've been tracking you shipment for more than a week and don't notice any updates, feel free to get in touch with us here and we will look for more information.

Special features

Our portfolio has sewn-in leather compartments in which you can store your business cards, your phone, pencils, paintbrushes or other documents.

Our grand voyageur doesn't have these compartments and is, therefore, the more minimalistic 

version.

Size

In addition to that, le portfolio is made in the standard DIN format, meaning that it is compatible with all standard DIN-A format notebooks, as well as our standard refills.

The grand voyageur is slightly smaller and is compatible with all our refills. There are some notebooks from Moleskin and Leuchtturm that should fit as well, but you will have more flexibility with a portfolio in terms of notebooks from other brands.

Each grand voyageur and portfolio comes with two ribbons: one outside to close the leather cover and one inside (two strands) for two notebooks. The colour of these ribbons are determinded by the leather colour - each leather colour comes with its own standard ribbon colour, which can be seen in the product pictures on our website.

Also included within the journal will be a  single blank notebook refill (48 pages).

Please note that it is not possible to customise this, as this is fixed as one product. Please feel free to add any additional refills to your order separately and find out here how you can exchange the ribbon colour yourself.

At paper republic, we stand for durable and natural products. Our high-quality leather is a natural product that may show natural irregularities. These irregularities are actually wrinkles and scars that have developed on the skin surface over time. The wrinkles and scars give every leather cover its uniqueness. 

The colour gradients, which can be seen on the inside of the leather, are created during the production process - during the vegetable tanning and dyeing of the leather, as well as during the subsequent splitting.

Our leather products are made by hand by our leather designers in Vienna. During this process, they undergo a constant quality check, where leather covers with large stains, scratches, and cuts on the outside of the leather are immediately sorted out.

Our vegetable-tanned vachetta leather comes from a family-run tannery in Tuscany, Italy. It is certified by the Genuine Italian Vegetable-Tanned Leather Consortium (Pelle al Vegetale), guaranteeing that the hides are tanned using only natural raw materials in a traditional and eco-friendly process. We produce all our leather products ourselves in our workshop here in Vienna.

We use only natural paper from Austria, Germany and Sweden. All our paper is unbleached, acid-free, FSC and Cradle to Cradle certified. The FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certification ensures that our paper products come from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social and economic benefits. Most of our paper suppliers are carbon neutral. This means that the inevitable CO2 emissions generated by the production are measured and compensated by investing in internationally recognised climate and sustainability projects.

Our printing partner is located in Vienna, not far from our own workshop. The family-run printing company uses certified organic printing inks. They are a carbon neutral company and have earned multiple sustainability certifications.

The "le sleeve" is especially designed to fit the MacBook Pro 13", 14" and 16". 

However, it does also fit other laptops:

To answer this question, we've created a video that shows how each of the pens in our shop fit into the loop. 

You can use our le baume leather wax in order to keep your leather in pristine condition. A little cream will go a long way. Feel free to repeat the process every two to three months: Apply a little cream on your leather journal and spread it evenly. Then rub it in with the polishing cloth.

In general, leather covers shouldn’t be exposed to bright light for too long. The sun, heat from the radiator and even bright indoor light can cause discoloration.

In addition, any pencil marks or spots shouldn’t be removed with soap and water, it can leave a stain on your leather cover and will leave a bigger mark on your daily companion.

For the use of fountain pens, we highly recommend using the book refill series, which has 120 gsm paper thickness and ensures to feathering and close to no ghosting. For a refill with even thicker paper, you can also check out the drawing book, which has 150 gsm paper.

Your leather journal comes with a ribbon set and a notebook. The ribbon set consists of two ribbons which are already attached to your leather cover - one outside to close the leather cover and one inside (two strands) to insert two notebooks. To add a third refill or more, you will need an additional ribbon. Here's a short video to show how it's done!

For the grand voyageur leather journal, you will be able to fit up to four regular refills and up to two thicker refills, like the book refill or drawing book. 

The portfolio, which are cut a little larger, can hold even more of our refills!

Your leather journal or portfolio comes with 1x ribbon for closure and 1 x ribbon to hold 2 notebooks.

If you want to add a third notebook or more, you can do this by adding another ribbon set.

Yes, changing the ribbons is easy - if you would like to change to a new colour or simply insert new ribbons, you can find all our ribbons here and add them to your order.

You can add the desired initials or a quote in the box "add embossing". The price will then be adjusted automatically.

Depending on the size and the color of your leather cover, we can offer up to 10 characters.

However, there are a few exceptions:

Embossings on the grand voyageur [pocket] as well as [xl] in the color red and natural are limited to 3 characters. Long embossings will lead to irregularities and, therefore, the amount of characters is limited.

Due to the sewn-in compartments, the embossing on our portfolios, porte plume, wallets and le sleeve is also limited to a maximum of 3 characters.

We believe in slow production: l’atelier is our response to today’s fast-paced world, where mass production is the norm and goods are made to have a short lifespan. This means that, once you and our team of leather designers agree on a design, it will take between 4 - 6 weeks for the product to be sent.
